Boy, am I glad that human society has allowed us to do specialization. Because the more I learn about my subjects of choice, the more layers there are within them to go down.
My interests are things like economics, sociology, media, and art. And the more I discover about any one of those topics, the more I learn of the people who specialize in them—the people dealing with stuff like this for the longest time. Continue reading
Storytelling is simpler than we let it be. What we consider cliché, what we consider trite or overdone, will work if it’s good storytelling. It’s the reason that superhero stories can have the same plot across the board but still succeed.
What is a structure, if not a template? What is a bacon cheeseburger, if not the same ingredients each time? Continue reading
This is honestly old news but because I didn’t keep up with my posting schedule—and I’m still kind of scrambling, sorry about that—I neglected to tell you how I broke my toe.
Basically, and this was not as painful as it sounds, I had my toe catch on the edge of something and I kept walking… and the toe tried to stay behind.
I’m betting you catch my drift. Continue reading
Hello everyone! I wanted to explain myself.
So, I don’t know if you noticed, but I haven’t been able to keep up with my usual posting schedule, and when I do put up something it’s a poem or similar that’s short and easy to write. Continue reading
As I’ve mentioned a very long time ago on this blog, I walk every day. But lately, I’ve been mostly walking at night. I like the dark, and I enjoy the quiet and the calm.
I also enjoy all the animals that come out at night.
My neighborhood is full of them. So far, I’ve come across rabbits, bats, possums, and the occasional stray cat. I’ve also, and perhaps I’ll do another post later about this story, come across a pair of huge owls. Continue reading
I’m a writer, and I somehow forget that a lot. Not in my day-to-day actions, because obviously I write a lot all the time. I’m doing it right now.
But I forget that I’m a professional writer. That it’s my job. That it’s how I make money and have been doing so for a long while now.
I forget that, among the people I know, I am the writer. That’s what people know me as in my town. It’s a label, a positive one, that just is there all the time when people talk to me. Continue reading
As insane as it may sound, I have been trying to keep tabs on all of what I do in my head. Every schedule, every little task, every long-term plan—I have little written down.
It’s all in my mind.
That has not been going too well… Continue reading
So, I have written hundreds of blog posts now, on so many topics. I have covered personal things, and funny things, and political things—sometimes it’s been a little random, honestly.
But today, as I type this out, I am not sure what I want to talk about in this post. I’m sure I could write about a bunch of things. I’ve been rather busy; no shortage of updates regarding my life. Continue reading
Hey everyone, sorry about how the articles have been lately. I’ve been posting a lot of poems and not a lot of big stuff—and I feel bad about that.
But the reason is really cool, so bear with me as I make my excuses.
I’ve been busy doing my author stuff. I’ve been learning to advertise and market—and seeing some profit from it. Continue reading
Oddly, now it did not seem,
Like I was waking from a dream,
I seemed to know upon open eye,
That I had slept multiple hours,
Noise level notwithstanding, I’ve learned to love the feel of a good mechanical keyboard. I was, until recently, one for laptops as my main way of writing—as my main way of working, actually. But a recent upgrade has made me see the appeal.
A taste of good life,
And best sounds,
Of salty things,
And piled-up mounds, Continue reading
I’ve done many things that didn’t seem to be relevant at the time, or later felt obsolete in the face of new circumstances. But, in a positive spin of an article, I have something simple to say regarding this.
The actions we do towards a goal are not a loss. There is no way to know what skills we develop and acquire will allow us to make something grand in the future. Continue reading
As the long haul settles in for this whole stuck-at-home thing, I’m sure some of you are feeling rather bored, frustrated, or stir crazy.
That’s understandable, and not abnormal. Humans are not meant to be stuck inside this much. However, as a person who willingly stays inside and doesn’t do much that doesn’t involve computers, this whole thing hasn’t been that strange for me.
And, as a person who’s not usually bored, I wanted to offer some advice for anyone that finds themselves growing unable to do much more than eat and sleep and maybe play video games. Continue reading
I’m probably right to assume that a good chunk of the people who read my posts are artists, yeah? I think that’s a fair assumption of things.
I hope so, anyway, because I’m addressing you right now. I’m talking to the painters, the writers, the poets, the singers, the animators, and everyone else who makes things for the sake of aesthetics.
Give me your attention for a second. Continue reading
