A long time ago,

In a moment that changed my life for the better,

I heard a song.

A common song—popular, yes,

You’ve heard it before,

I’m fairly certain,

But it doesn’t matter,

Because it marked when I knew something,

That came true a long time later—

That came true in the best way, better than I could’ve expected,

It told me a common idea, too,

Something we hear all the time,

But sometimes that’s what you need, that’s what the soul needs to hear.

Sometimes we simply need a reminder,

A reminder of how the world can be,

And that we can fight for it.
