On this day,
We give our thanks,
For things we have,
And things we earned,
For tales told well,
For obstacles overcome despite it all,
For people who are loved and love us, and share our lives,
The history of this holiday,
May be full of strife,
Groups marginalized,
Ancient lives given unneeded pain,
But in the spirit of abundance,
Of eating, drinking, and being merry,
We gather our friends, family, too,
The people we care for,
And eat a lot,
So much food,
And sit around and be social,
This year, more than many,
I have quite a bit to be thankful for—
And quite a bit to celebrate.
