Notice: So…I know I said I would have a Monthly Mentions out today…but there was a bit of a change of plans. I don’t want to leave you without content though, so enjoy this microfiction!

“Blood. Blood and fire.”
She raises the staff above her head. The mask obscuring everything.
Except the mouth. The white, smirking teeth.
I’m on the ground with the others. The blood moon and the lightning existing in tandem.
“These are the ashes of the last.”
The others sway back and forth. Rising to their knees. They sweep me into the motion. I can feel the fervor now. See it all.
“And we shall bathe in it before this day is done.” She pulls back the mask, tossing it into the air. It crashes to the ground, shattering into fragments of clay.
The kid next to me stands. Taking off his shirt. The priestess lowers her staff an inch… before raising it back up in glory.
“And they shall know our fire. And our blood!”
“Who shall know of us mistress?” the shirtless boy asks. The rest of us break into a chant. “Blood and fire. Fire and blood.”
“Our enemies of course!” she says before laughing towards the red ceiling. The strobe light still going full blast. “We will end this world, and all who fear us. The sky will burn with our fire, and our blood!”
I bite my lip so hard it nearly bleeds, and offer out my hand. The priestess is beautiful in that moment. “I am worthy.”
Her foot comes down on me. Her slippers against my forehead. I stay strong.
“Worthy of what?” her words a spit. A slur.
“Of the first attack mistress.”
“Are you certain?”
I’ve never been so certain in my life. I push her foot away and stand. Looking her straight in her green-blue eyes. “Yes.”
Her robe drops to the ground. Revealing a sports bra, and a pair of grey sweatpants. Her hand outstretches with the D20.
“Good. Roll a fifteen or higher to get a critical blow.”
