I Love Card Games

Lesser known fact about me: I adore card games. From Cards Against Humanity to Magic: The Gathering, I love using little cardboard rectangles (often worth a lot of money) to win in contests of skill and wit.

And luck.

Obviously. Continue reading

If I Were A Video Game Character

I didn’t much enjoy the book Ready Player One. It was…fine…I guess. It did give me a fun idea.

I am going to treat myself like an avatar in a game and list off my usual items and traits.

And, yes, I am doing this because it’s a good way to combine self-deprecating humor and ego-stroking, how’d you guess?

Here we go. Continue reading

Too Much Content!

“You can’t have too much of a good thing” is a bullshit statement. And as opening sentences to my articles go that might be the most jarring one I’ve done in a while. But, it’s true—so very true. I am inundated with stuff I want to watch and read and experience and do. I realize, like a lot of the stuff I talk about online, that this is a first world problem. But, hey, I am being more open, and this is what I am dealing with. My problems, shared by others, may not actually matter much in the long run, but that doesn’t mean they are not valid in the immediacy of strong emotion. Continue reading

Brandon’s Favorite Things: A List

The subjective nature of art, and the changing of a person’s personality as time goes by, adds up to it being desperately hard to nail down a favorites list. Media shifts as we do—at least from our perspective—and thus we will respond differently than we had minutes before. But, as a creator, and a consumer, and dare I use the pretentious word: “connoisseur” of creative things, I do feel it necessary to try to understand my taste in media, and since this is the internet, the natural tendency is to try to put it into an easy to read list.

So, here we go. I am going to, based on my opinions on this day 2/6/17 (which is when I wrote this…you’ll see the edited version on Wednesday) list out my favorite creation in each form of media I can think to include, along with a short reason for why. Though, to keep the word count reasonable, I’ll keep to only a few short sentences each.

So, here we go. My current all-time favorites. If I had to grab something for entertainment and run, these would be my choices. Continue reading

Microfiction: Games

My first attempt at the infamous “second person perspective” writing style. It’s set in the same universe as my previous microfiction: “The Other White Meat.”

It’s a story of contests and stakes, simply titled:

Games

The game has only just begun. Continue reading

Ender’s Game The Movie

Many adaptations of popular franchises have gone over quite well in the last few years. The Harry Potter movies where critically acclaimed, and loved by the fans. It is not impossible to adapt a book to film in a way that will please the fans.

Some books lend themselves to this better than others.

Ender’s Game was not one of those. Continue reading
