Poem: Tales of Horror

Spooky demons,

Big things in space,

Evil clowns,

I don’t know why these things are interesting to me—

Not for certain,

But monsters are fun.

They are such a creative thing.

Monsters always come from somewhere,

They are formed from something real,

They are from formless human darkness—

But also, the mischievous nature of chaos and imagination,

And of childlike interest in the strange.

I like stories with stakes,

With real challenges and danger to characters,

And,

In horror,

When killing characters is normal,

That tension does finally exist.

No sureness of a story’s happy ending.
