It’s been a long while,
Since my body did that,
Shut down,
And crashed,
Without letting me get back to bed,
Without pressure or vitamin lead,
Just a simple,
Unconscious dreaming,
Without the mind awake,
The endless scheming.
Looking back,
It does not surprise,
That I was suddenly forced to reprise,
The sleeping patterns,
Before the coffee,
Before insomnia and the long night’s work,
When I was a child who had played outside,
And then found my body,
At the end,
Totally tired and fried.
A kind of sleep that demands its due,
The kind of sleep beyond the routine we set for ourselves,
Simply because we need it.
