Trailer Talk: Marvel’s Ant-Man

It’s a bird!

It’s a plane!

It’s not even from the same universe as Superman!

IT’S ANT-MAN!

And I am personally quite excited about the newest addition to the Marvel cinematic universe. So excited in fact, that I’m devoting an entire Trailer Talk to it! So let’s take a look!

Hmm, interesting.

From the looks of this trailer, the movie is going to have two major…I hesitate to call them gimmicks, but that’s really the best word for it. Which are: size jokes, and a lot of perspective shots, especially slow-motion ones.

Wrap those two ideas up in a standard superhero movie action plot, and I think it will be good. A fun romp similar to Guardians of The Galaxy, and even the two Avengers films. But on a much smaller scale (joke only partially intended).

Which is a good move for finishing off Phase Two. With the Marvel Universe getting continuously bigger and more complicated, it’s nice to have a few movies that keep the conflict just within their own stories. That is, assuming there are no random cross-overs that show up.

In fact, all told, this is quite nearly a perfect Marvel trailer. That is, except one thing. And I realize it’s a bit nit-picky to point out, but that very first line bugs me every time I hear it.

“A soldier, the size of an insect. The ultimate secret weapon.”

Now, I realize this is in the Marvel universe. A universe that manages to house such oddities as: a sentient planet, Thog The Nether-Spawn, Asbestos Man, and Angar The Screamer. But with that said, who in their right mind sets out to create a secret weapon, and then decides that shrinking is the best solution?

It’s a bit silly is all I’m saying.

You know, because the name Ant-Man conjures up such serious imagery.

Still, with that criticism aside, this trailer promises us a movie full of action, comedy, and all the fun we’ve come to expect from the world’s biggest film series.

Special thanks to: Collin Pearman, Dylan Alexander, Jerry Banfield, Michael The Comic NerdPulsatilla Pratensis, and Zeony.
